Pattison Media Equity Scholarship
Pattison Media will award up to four (4) $2,500.00 scholarships annually to students enrolled in a recognized journalism education program at a post-secondary educational institution.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants must meet these criteria:
- Resident of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.
- Attending on a full-time basis, a post-secondary institution in a recognized journalism program.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Up to four (4) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded annually to recipients based on geography:
- 1 chosen applicant from each region: British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan/Manitoba combined
- 1 chosen applicant as an all around recipient from all applicants in Western Canada
Preference will be given to members of groups currently underrepresented in the journalism industries.
- Indigenous Persons
- Persons with disabilities
- Members of visible minorities
- Women
APPLICATION COMPONENTS
1) The Essay
This essay will be evaluated on the clarity and content of how the applicant addresses the following:
- Applicability of the philosophy of this scholarship to the applicant’s personal situation (i.e., membership in one of the underrepresented groups)
- The applicant’s commitment to journalism
- The applicant’s community involvement and activity
Essay Pointers: Tell us about yourself and why this scholarship should be yours! How does your personal situation align with our goal to support underrepresented groups? What is your commitment to journalism? What is your community involvement and activity? We want to hear about why you chose to pursue journalism as a career.
2) Two (2) reference letters
These letters should be from people that know you either personally or professionally, are currently working in the industry or preferably, from a journalism school instructor.
3) Completion of the Application Form below.
APPLICATION TIMELINE
We are accepting applications for the 2023 Pattison Media Equity Scholarships from January 9th through February 17th, 2023. No late submissions will be accepted.
The application process is purely online by filling out the Application Form below.
The Scholarship Selection Team will review applications and announce the scholarship recipients in early April 2023.

- Write your essay based on the specifications listed above. Save as a digital file on your computer. You will upload this to the application form below.
